Peterskirche, Protestant church in Weinheim, Germany
Peterskirche is a Protestant place of worship in Weinheim with a tower rising 48 meters (157 feet) above the old town. The nave holds 700 people, while the galleries add 630 more seats.
The first church on this site appeared around the year 1000, when Emperor Otto III granted Weinheim market rights. The current building was erected by Hermann Behaghel after a fire in the early 20th century.
The church name honors Saint Peter, its patron since medieval times. Visitors find inside an organ built by Steinmeyer in 1906, reconstructed after war damage and still played during services today.
Worship services take place regularly, and visitors can often enter the church interior outside ceremony times. The entrance stands near the market square in the old town and is easy to reach on foot.
Archaeological digs during reconstruction uncovered wall paintings from the 14th and 15th centuries. Some of these frescoes were later lost during the Second World War.
