The Deutsches Drahtmuseum presents comprehensive exhibits about wire production techniques, industrial processes, and applications across multiple exhibition spaces totaling 630 square meters.
Founded in 1965 through industrialist Paul Rump's initiative, the museum initially operated in Altena Castle's Commander's House before relocating to the former Altena Lyceum in 1994.
The museum collection illustrates the evolution of wire craftsmanship through displays of historical tools, industrial machinery, and contemporary wire-based artistic creations.
The museum opens Tuesday through Friday from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, weekends from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with wheelchair accessibility and combination tickets for Altena Castle.
This institution stands as the world's only museum dedicated to wire manufacturing, featuring exhibitions ranging from medieval chain mail to modern superconductor applications.
