Deutsches Glasmalerei-Museum Linnich, Stained glass museum in Linnich, Germany
The Deutsches Glasmalerei-Museum Linnich is housed in a former grain mill near Cologne and displays painted glass as well as modern glass art across about 1400 square meters. The collection spans works from different periods, ranging from older pieces to contemporary pieces.
The building dates from 1608 and originally served as a water mill in the Duchy of Jülich. The Weitz family operated the mill across several centuries, until use ended in the 1960s and the building was later converted into a museum.
The museum displays works by many artists working with glass, and their creations define the spaces you walk through. You can see how different styles and techniques stand side by side across different periods.
Visiting is easiest on weekdays and weekends when most areas are open to the public. It helps to check ahead if any special events or exhibitions are happening that might affect your visit.
A historic waterway still flows beneath the building, once powering the old mill operations. This hidden stream is barely visible from outside today, yet it connects the modern exhibition spaces to the site's original purpose.
