Königliche Eisenbahndirektion Berlin

Königliche Eisenbahndirektion Berlin, Administrative building in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, Germany

The Royal Prussian Railway Administration is an administrative building at Schöneberger Ufer 1-3 with red brick facades and Renaissance design elements. Inside, it features granite staircases and ornate molded ceilings throughout its spaces.

The building was constructed between 1892 and 1895 as the headquarters for the Royal Prussian Railway Administration. Once completed, it became the command center for managing an extensive rail network serving the capital and surrounding regions.

The building represents how railways became central to Germany's economy and growth during the late 1800s. It shows the importance that Berlin placed on transportation infrastructure as the capital expanded.

The building currently serves as the headquarters for the Federal Police Directorate 11 and is not open to the public. However, its noteworthy architecture can be easily viewed and appreciated from the street outside.

The building underwent a complete renovation in the early 1990s that preserved and restored its historical features. This transformation into a modern government building demonstrates how historic structure and contemporary use can coexist successfully.
