Dorfkirche Göhren

Dorfkirche Göhren is a brick church that stands on a hill in the center of the town, featuring a simple hall design with stained glass windows in the altar section. The interior space is defined by these windows, creating a bright and straightforward appearance.

Construction started in 1929 following designs by architect Peter Jürgensen from Berlin, with the dedication ceremony held on May 16, 1930. The project emerged during a period of significant transformation in Germany.

The altar figures display Mary and John dressed in the traditional clothing of the Mönchgut region, bringing local customs directly into the religious space. This visual connection shows how regional identity and faith are woven together in the place.

The interior holds a digital concert organ installed in 2002 with over 30 registers that supports musical performances and services. Visitors should know that concerts and religious events regularly affect access to the space.

A votive ship model from 1913 showing the bark Seeadler hangs inside, honoring the maritime history of the area. This model demonstrates how the concerns of fishermen and sailors found expression in the religious space.
