Durchgangslager Bietigheim, Transit camp near Bietigheim train station, Germany
Durchgangslager Bietigheim was a facility near the train station featuring multiple barracks arranged in a rectangular layout with separate zones for arrival processing and accommodation. The installation contained basic infrastructure for temporary housing and administrative operations before people were assigned to other destinations.
The camp operated from 1942 to 1945 as a distribution point for forced laborers from Eastern Europe assigned to work sites across Southwest Germany. It served as a processing hub during the wartime period for routing workers to their designated locations.
The camp maintained two distinct areas divided by a fence, where arriving workers underwent medical examinations and decontamination procedures before their distribution.
The site is located near the train station, which facilitated arrival and departure routes for those processed there. Visitors should know that few physical remains exist today, and information comes mainly from memorials and historical documentation at nearby locations.
Medical facilities at the camp performed documented forced medical procedures, while connected hospitals in Pleidelsheim and Grosssachsenheim handled infectious diseases.
