Dynamikum, Science museum and research center in Pirmasens, Germany

Dynamikum is a science center in Pirmasens, in the Rhineland-Palatinate region of Germany, where visitors can explore natural laws through hands-on stations. The exhibition is spread across several rooms, each focusing on a different physical theme such as motion, forces, or energy.

The center opened in 2008 inside a former shoe factory, a building type that was once common in Pirmasens when the city was a major hub of the German shoe industry. The conversion kept the original industrial structure while adapting the interior for public use.

The building that houses this science center still shows its industrial past on the outside, with large factory windows and a solid brick structure. Inside, the exhibits are designed so that visitors discover physical phenomena through direct contact, without needing any prior knowledge.

The center is located on the edge of Pirmasens city center and is easy to reach by car, with parking close to the entrance. A visit works well for groups or families, since many of the stations are designed for more than one person at a time.

At one of the stations, visitors can generate a tornado with their own hands and watch the air column form in real time above them. The same physical principle behind this demonstration also explains how real tornadoes develop in nature.
