Bärenhöhle, Natural cave system in Südwestpfalz, Germany
The Bärenhöhle extends through 37 meters of horizontal tunnels within a karst formation at 800 meters above sea level in the Palatinate region.
The cave's discovery occurred on May 30, 1834, when teacher Mr. Fauth noticed rocks falling into a gap while gathering herbs in the area.
The cave system contains numerous archaeological findings, including skeletons of prehistoric animals such as rhinos, cave lions, and bears from 20,000 years ago.
The cave opens for guided tours with entrance fees of 4 euros for adults, 3 euros for reduced tickets, and 2.50 euros for children between 6 and 14.
The entrance, known as Fauthsloch, features a distinctive collapsed ceiling section that now serves as the modern access point to the cave system.
