The museum was established in 1990 by Heiner Beckmann as a private collection focused on German motorcycle manufacturers such as BMW, DKW, and NSU. The collection documents the technical development of motorcycle production in Germany across several decades.

The museum maintains a collection of 1500 antique dolls made from fabric, porcelain, and celluloid, representing styles from the Biedermeier period through the 1950s.
