Burg

Burg is a stone castle perched on a hill above Miltenberg with ramparts, towers, and bastions reflecting different building phases. The structure spreads across multiple levels with thick walls and underground chambers forming a large maze of rooms and corridors.

The fortress arose in medieval times as a military stronghold and underwent multiple reconstructions to keep pace with changing defense needs. Its structural modifications document the evolution of fortification techniques between the 12th and 19th centuries.

The name simply means castle and reflects the structure's original purpose as a fortified residence. Today visitors can see how different rooms were used across centuries, from military command centers to residential quarters.

Visitors should wear sturdy footwear as paths and staircases are uneven and sometimes steep. Access to certain areas requires physical effort, and not all parts of the building are suited for people with mobility restrictions.

The castle houses an extensive collection of historical hunting weapons in a former armory, revealing how the lord and his guests passed their leisure time. This collection offers insight into the everyday pursuits of residents beyond their military duties.
