Allgäuer Bergbauernmuseum, Open-air museum in Immenstadt, Germany.
Allgäuer Bergbauernmuseum is an open-air museum in Immenstadt with historic farmhouses, barns, and workshops from the mountain region. The buildings are original structures or were carefully moved from their original sites and display the crafts and farming techniques that were common in this high-altitude area.
The museum was created to preserve the farming traditions and crafts of the Allgäu mountain region from being forgotten. The houses gathered here come from different periods and record how living conditions and work methods evolved over generations in this mountainous landscape.
The rooms and work spaces on display show how mountain farmers lived and organized their daily routines. Throughout the grounds, you can see the close connections between family, animals, and the land that shaped life in the Allgäu Alps.
The museum grounds are open from April through October and can be visited on most days. Those who can walk will be able to explore all areas, but you should wear sturdy shoes since the paths between the buildings are natural and sometimes uneven.
Many of the buildings are not simply old originals left in place, but were transported from other locations in the Allgäu and rebuilt there. This approach made it possible to save houses that would otherwise have been torn down.
