Goldenstedter Moor, Protected peatland area in Goldenstedt, Germany.
Goldenstedter Moor is a large raised bog area with wooden observation towers and trails through wetland habitats. The terrain displays different bog stages and allows visitors to explore the landscape from elevated viewpoints.
The bog was designated as a protected area in 1987 and then restored from earlier farming uses back to its natural state. This recovery allowed an ecologically rich raised bog system to re-establish itself.
The visitor center explains how peatlands form and why they matter for nature today. People can learn about the rare plants and animals that depend on bog habitats.
The site is accessible by road between Vechta and Goldenstedt and offers easy access to walking trails. Narrow-gauge train tours also run through the area during warmer months.
An underground tunnel at the visitor center displays bog cross-sections and layers spanning thousands of years. Visitors can see firsthand how deep and ancient the peat layers actually are.
