Gold Berg, Mountain summit in Baden-Württemberg, Germany
Gold Berg is a summit in Baden-Württemberg rising to about 500 meters with vegetation typical of the southern German region. The slopes display the characteristic plant communities found in this landscape type.
The summit formed from rocks ejected during the Ries impact event, followed by travertine deposits from calcareous springs. Archaeological excavations between 1911 and 1929 revealed multiple occupation periods spanning from around 4000 to 250 BC.
The name comes from Old High German 'kulm', meaning summit, not from precious metal. This linguistic origin remains part of how locals and visitors refer to the place.
Marked hiking trails lead to the summit with options for different fitness levels. The southern slope has restricted access to protect the habitat, so visitors should stick to designated routes.
The rock composition includes White Jurassic material brought to the area by the Ries impact event. This makes the summit a geologically distinctive location bearing traces of cosmic history.
