Schloss Roseck, Medieval castle in Unterjesingen, Germany
Schloss Roseck is a medieval castle situated on a hilltop above the Ammertal valley with a central courtyard surrounded by defensive walls. The stone structure is enclosed by auxiliary buildings that form part of the overall fortification.
The castle first appeared in records in 1287 when Count Gottfried I of Tübingen transferred it to King Rudolf of Habsburg. This handover marked a significant change in who controlled the site.
A chapel added to the castle in 1924 blends baroque design with 1920s architectural features. It shows how the site remained important to those who lived there.
The site remains under private ownership and the public cannot enter the grounds or buildings. You can view it from the surrounding paths and roads nearby.
A fire in 1991 caused severe damage and left the building as an empty shell for many years afterward. Only the roof received repairs while the interior remained untouched.
