Schloss Jößnitz

Schloss Jößnitz stands on elevated ground overlooking the Vogtland region with a distinctive round tower and Renaissance elements. The complex includes the preserved castle structures and a maintained park landscape that completes the setting.

The castle was first documented in 1282 and changed hands several times before the von Watzdorf family held it from 1530 to 1842. This long period shaped the structure and character of the site as it appears today.

The name Jößnitz comes from Slavic origins and reflects the early settlers of this region. Today the maintained park with a pond and a Swiss-style pavilion shape how visitors experience the grounds and invite leisurely walks.

The castle now operates as a hotel and restaurant, allowing visitors to explore the rooms or dine on the premises. Annual medieval festivals with craft demonstrations and knight tournaments offer popular times to experience the grounds in a special setting.

In 1830, Baron Otto von Watzdorf became the only nobleman in the Vogtland region to abolish serfdom on his estate. This progressive decision set him apart from his peers and demonstrated thinking ahead of his time.
