Schultheisweiher, Natural lake and recreation area in Offenbach am Main, Germany.
Schultheisweiher is a recreational and bathing lake on the eastern side of Offenbach spanning about 10 hectares of water. The lake has designated swimming zones with regular water quality monitoring throughout the bathing season.
The lake developed from a former gravel quarry operated by the Schultheis company that was flooded after mining ended. Following extensive land restoration work, the site became a protected nature area in 1983.
The lake serves as a stopover for migratory birds traveling between northern breeding areas and southern wintering grounds. Visitors can observe different water bird species depending on the season throughout the year.
The shoreline has several access points and is easily walkable, with barrier-free paths leading to the water. Visitors with limited mobility will find accessible restrooms and ample parking near the main entrances.
A phosphate removal system was installed in 2022 to automatically improve water quality and support ecological diversity. The system helps the lake maintain its natural balance despite heavy use from many visitors.
