Klein-Krotzenburg, Historical district in Hainburg, Germany.
Klein-Krotzenburg is a district of the municipality of Hainburg in the Offenbach district, located along the southern bank of the Main River in the Frankfurt Rhine-Main region. The land is mostly flat, opening toward the floodplain of the river and bordered by fields and green areas.
Klein-Krotzenburg appears in written records for the first time in 1175, mentioned during a dispute between Seligenstadt Abbey and Saint Peter's Monastery. Long before that, the area had already been settled and used, as shown by finds from the Roman period.
The Liebfrauenheide chapel, dating from the early 18th century, still draws visitors from the surrounding area today. Its modest appearance and quiet setting reflect how faith shaped everyday life along this stretch of the Main valley.
The area is easy to explore on foot or by bicycle, as the terrain is flat and accessible. Along the riverbank, the ground can be uneven after rain, so sturdy footwear is a good idea.
Remains of a Roman bridge found in this area are now kept in two different museums: the local heritage museum and the Saalburg museum. This suggests that the crossing here was once an important point along the Main for Roman travelers and soldiers.
