Waldspielpark Tannenwald, Forest playground in Sachsenhausen, Germany

Waldspielpark Tannenwald is one of Frankfurt's seven forest play parks, laid out in 1961 on the southern edge of Sachsenhausen and enlarged to 5.24 hectares in 1975. A large lawn lies at its centre, with a roller-skating rink, a pump track, basketball and football courts, a 9-hole minigolf course, table tennis tables and a trim-dich fitness trail. A water spray field with shallow paddling areas operates when the outside temperature reaches at least 22 °C.

Waldspielpark Tannenwald was laid out in 1961 as one of Frankfurt's seven municipal forest playgrounds, on ground within the Frankfurter Stadtwald at the boundary with Neu-Isenburg. In 1975 it was enlarged to 5.24 hectares, and a Trimm-dich-Pfad fitness trail was added that same year. The site lies directly beneath an approach and departure corridor of Frankfurt Airport.

The park serves as a gathering place where families spend time together outdoors, reflecting how important forest spaces are for Frankfurt's leisure habits. People of all ages use the different areas regularly to play, exercise, or simply be together.

The park is located in the forest and easily accessible from Sachsenhausen, with parking available and basic facilities like restrooms on site. The water play areas operate only during warmer months, so it makes sense to check the current season before visiting.

The park sits directly under Frankfurt Airport flight paths, where planes can be watched landing and taking off. For some visitors this is a special experience, even though it means aircraft traffic is sometimes audible.
