St. Nicolai, Lutheran church in Alfeld, Germany
The church structure features a Gothic hall design with two western towers that stand prominently above the Leinetal valley landscape.
The building evolved from a late 11th-century Romanesque structure to its current form through multiple extensions, including a Gothic hall conversion around 1400.
The church contains a triumphal cross from 1230/1240 and houses an organ built by Heinrich Schaper between 1862 and 1863 with 31 stops.
The organ system underwent restoration in 2015, resulting in an expanded configuration of 44 stops across three manuals and a pedal section.
The church became the seat of a superintendent in 1542 when Alfeld's citizens adopted the Lutheran confession, later advancing to general superintendent status.
