Elberfeld, Municipal district in Wuppertal, Germany.
Elberfeld is a municipal district in the heart of Wuppertal with hilly terrain and green spaces that spread across several kilometers. The area blends historic architecture with modern urban life, and varying elevations shape the landscape.
The first mention as 'elverfelde' dates to 1161 and refers to the river valley in this area. The place kept its independence for centuries until merging into Wuppertal in 1929.
The Von-der-Heydt-Museum displays artworks from the region and attracts visitors interested in local artists. The old city hall today hosts concerts and cultural events.
The area is well served by rail and bus lines with numerous stops for public transit. The infrastructure makes it easy to move around the district and reach neighboring areas.
Friedrich Harkort built an experimental suspended railway in 1826 that paved the way for the current Schwebebahn system. This aerial train is now a landmark and connects the city in an unusual way.
