Weingut I, Architectural heritage monument in Mühldorf Hart, Bavaria.
Weingut I is a concrete bunker structure located near the Inn River in Bavaria. The site consists of seven massive arched concrete vaults that together form a large industrial complex.
Construction began in 1944 as part of efforts to protect aircraft production from Allied bombing raids. After the war, American forces conducted demolition tests on the structure to evaluate its strength.
The site serves as a memorial to prisoners from across Europe who were forced to labor here under brutal conditions. Visitors today can reflect on the human suffering connected to this place.
Access requires a permit from local authorities and visitors must follow marked paths through the area. The surrounding land is overgrown with vegetation, so wear sturdy shoes and appropriate clothing.
One concrete arch remained standing after extensive demolition testing by American forces, showing the remarkable strength of the engineering. This makes the place an unexpected testament to the technical skill of that era.
