Tiergarten Eisenberg

Tiergarten Eisenberg is a zoo spread across about 2.5 hectares and home to around 720 animals from approximately 44 species, ranging from native forest dwellers to exotic creatures. The facility features various enclosures where visitors can observe the animals from close range.

The zoo was established as part of an initiative to support rural development in the Thuringia region following German reunification. This founding shaped the local community and created new opportunities for the area.

The zoo draws visitors who seek close contact with kangaroos, deer, and goats through accessible enclosures that encourage direct observation. These encounters create a sense of connection to animals that typical zoo layouts do not offer.

The zoo is open during extended hours from March through December, while winter months offer shorter visiting times. Wear comfortable shoes as the facility is designed for walking and exploring.

Visitors can experience special feeding sessions with hamadryas baboons, offering a rare opportunity for direct interaction. This hands-on contact with these primates is not common in most European zoos.
