Evangelische Kirche Mappach

The Evangelical Church Mappach is a church building with a Gothic tower and houses restored frescoes from 1490 on its ceiling. These frescoes depict biblical prophets and New Testament saints and give the space a special artistic quality.

Archaeological excavations confirmed that a first basilica existed at this location as early as 874, then known as Madebach. The present church developed from this early settlement and demonstrates continuous use of the site for over a thousand years.

The interior brings together elements from different periods, showing how this place has changed over time through its decoration and layout. Visitors can see how different generations left their mark and shaped the space according to their ideas.

This is an active place of worship, so opening times and visiting conditions are usually tied to services and events. It is worth checking ahead or trying a visit on weekends or during the week when services may be happening.

The mechanical organ was built in 1830 by Franz Josef Merklin and features nine registers spread across two keyboards and pedals. This instrument is an example of 19th century craftsmanship and continues to be used in services today.
