Schloss Leerodt, Medieval castle ruins in Geilenkirchen, Germany
The castle features a five-part outer bailey, a two-story gatehouse, and remnants of two wings with a brick arcade walkway.
The Lords of Leerodt established this ancestral seat in the 13th century, constructing the main house in 1647 and the gatehouse in 1658.
The building exemplifies the architectural evolution from a medieval water castle to a Renaissance manor house in the Lower Rhine region.
The German Foundation for Monument Protection allocated 65,000 euros for structural stabilization and renovation of various sections of the ruins.
The five-arched arcade gallery in the west wing retains its original brick rear wall, representing architectural elements from different construction periods.
