Established in 1938, this facility served as a forced labor camp during World War II housing thousands of prisoners. American troops liberated the site in 1945, after which it took on a different role in managing records.
The memorial displays the names of prisoners from across Europe who were held here during the war. These inscriptions serve as a reminder of the many different nationalities that suffered together in this place.
