Reinhardt-Kaserne, Military barracks in Ellwangen, Germany.
Reinhardt-Kaserne is a military barracks on the southern edge of Ellwangen, situated along the B290 federal road. The grounds cover a sizeable area and include several building blocks, some of which are still in active use.
The site was built in 1914 as a training facility for the Württemberg army and was taken over by Allied forces after World War II. In 1956 it became the first Bundeswehr base established in Baden-Württemberg.
The site is best known today for housing the South Language Center, which offers language training for Bundeswehr personnel. The buildings still carry the plain, functional look typical of mid-20th-century military construction.
The barracks are easy to reach by car, as they sit directly along a main road on the southern outskirts of Ellwangen. Parts of the site remain in operation, so public access to the grounds is restricted.
Before the site became a full military installation, it briefly served as accommodation for state police and an evangelical orphanage between the two World Wars. This period of civilian use is largely forgotten today.
