Fränkisches Wunderland, Theme park in Plech, Germany
Fränkisches Wunderland is a theme park in Plech, Germany, covering about 37 acres (15 hectares) with three main sections. The layout moves between a fairy tale forest, a western town called Kansas City, and an action zone filled with rides for different ages.
Ernst Schuster Senior founded the site in 1976 with the fairy tale section as the first area. Kansas City western town opened the following year, broadening the park's concept.
The park's name links to the Franconian region and offers several themed worlds under one roof. Families walk through sections that shift from fairy tales to frontier town settings, each with its own set of attractions and characters.
The grounds lie right next to the A9 motorway between Bayreuth and Nuremberg, with the Plech exit just one minute away. Paved paths connect the different sections, making it easy for families to find their way around.
Michael Jackson stopped by during his Dangerous Tour in 1992 and stayed overnight at Pflaum's Posthotel in nearby Pegnitz. That visit brought the park international attention beyond its usual audience.
