Fühlingen Lake, Recreational lake system in Cologne, Germany.
Fühlingen is a lake complex made up of seven interconnected water bodies that spread across roughly 100 hectares and are crossed by a central rowing facility. The lakes offer different areas for swimming, boating, and other water sports at several shore locations.
The lakes began forming in 1912 through gravel extraction for road and railway construction, with the pits later filling naturally from groundwater and Rhine water. From this industrial past emerged one of the region's most important water sports and recreation facilities.
The grounds serve as a gathering place for water sports enthusiasts and people seeking recreation from across the region. The shores are used by families, runners, and cyclists who appreciate the open paths and green spaces.
Most shore areas are freely accessible, but special swimming areas like Blackfoot Beach charge entry fees. The best time to visit is during the warmer months, when swimming, rowing, and other water sports are fully available.
The grounds hosted the 1998 World Rowing Championships and operate to international standards for elite competitions. This sporting role makes it a known center for ambitious rowers across Europe.
