The Propsteikirche St. Johannes Baptist stands as a Gothic hall church with three naves and features detailed architectural elements throughout its structure.
Initially constructed in 1331 as a Dominican monastery church, the building underwent reconstruction from 1947 to 1967 following destruction during World War II.
The late-Gothic high altar created by Derick Baegert between 1470 and 1480 contains the earliest known visual representation of Dortmund.
The church opens daily from early morning until evening mass at 6:30 PM, with specific morning opening times varying between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM.
The church windows incorporate modern designs that document both biblical narratives and events from Dortmund during the National Socialist period.
