Oberpfaffenhofen Airport, airport in Germany
Oberpfaffenhofen Airport is a special airport and company airfield in Weßling, Germany, with an asphalt runway over 2,200 meters long. The grounds cover around 279 hectares and contain hangars, laboratories, offices, and test facilities for aircraft development and aerospace research.
The airport was founded in 1936 by Dornier as a factory airfield and initially served for aircraft testing. After 1945 it was taken over by the US Army and returned to civil use in 1957, with Dornier continuing aircraft development work.
The location takes its name from the nearby town of Weßling and remains deeply connected to aviation work. You can see this connection daily through the workshops, test flights, and collaboration between different companies on site.
The airport is about two kilometers from the A96 motorway and easily accessible by car. By public transport you can use nearby train stations or take a bus, which even runs directly across the airfield runway.
An unusual feature is the public bus that runs directly across the landing runway, allowing workers and visitors fast transitions between different parts of the site. This shows the tight coordination between ground traffic and flight operations at this location.
