Wallfahrtskirche Maria Gern

Wallfahrtskirche Maria Gern is a Baroque church on a hilltop at 700 meters elevation featuring an oval central structure between a southern tower and northern sacristy. Inside, a 1740 nativity scene collection remains permanently displayed beneath the organ gallery.

A first chapel emerged in the 16th century, but was replaced by a stone structure in 1708 to accommodate growing numbers of pilgrims. This expansion reflects the site's increasing importance as a pilgrimage destination in the region.

The ceiling displays 24 cartouches depicting scenes from Mary's life, while the high altar holds a grace image of Mary Help that is dressed in different silk damask robes depending on the season.

The church is accessible year-round and offers a quieter visiting experience without the crowds often found at other popular pilgrimage sites. Its hilltop location encourages walks through the surrounding countryside.

The interior holds a collection of votive paintings spanning from the 16th century to the 20th century, documenting how the buildings at this location evolved over time. These images record prayers answered across generations at this sacred place.
