St. Johann, Parish church in Dillingen/Saar, Germany.
St. Johann is a rectangular hall church in Dillingen/Saar featuring late classical round-arch style architecture built from sandstone blocks with a prominent western tower. A Romanus Seifert and Sohn organ with 24 registers was installed in 1957, and the interior is completed by two bells added in 1959.
The current building was constructed between 1844 and 1845, replacing an earlier Gothic structure from 1450 dedicated to Saint Lucia. This transition represented a significant architectural change that reshaped the church's appearance in the community.
The church serves the Parish of Dillingen Sankt Odilia and functions as a gathering place for the local community. Its dedication to John the Baptist is reflected in the patron saint celebration held on June 24 each year.
The church interior is open for visitors to explore and view its historical instruments and appointments. Those interested in hearing the organ should inquire about regular services or concerts that may be scheduled.
A Swedish Cross from 1771 stands on the eastern side of the building and bears witness to the passage of time. It underwent extensive restoration after war damage and now serves as a reminder of the location's layered past.
