Friedhofskirche, Protestant church in Elberfeld, Wuppertal, Germany.
The Friedhofskirche is a church building in Elberfeld featuring a distinctive octagonal central tower and four square stair towers at the corners. The structure displays a solid, block-like form characteristic of late Romanesque architecture.
Construction began in May 1894 and was completed in 1898 following designs by architect Johannes Otzen in late Romanesque style. The building was erected during a period of significant industrial transformation in Wuppertal.
The interior follows Protestant worship traditions with the pulpit positioned behind the altar and benches arranged in concentric circular sections. This layout brings visitors closer to the sermon and creates a more direct connection to the service.
The building is easily accessible from street level and the octagonal tower is visible from several directions across the city. Visitors should keep in mind that services and events may occasionally restrict access to the interior.
The organ was built by Wilhelm Sauer in 1898 and represents a significant instrument of its period. Its original sound was fully restored only in 2010 through a major renovation.
