Textilmuseum Mindelheim, Textile museum in Mindelheim, Germany
The Textilmuseum Mindelheim is a textile museum housed in a former Jesuit College and presents extensive collections of historical clothing, accessories, and fine craft objects. The exhibition includes ecclesiastical vestments, fashion items from multiple centuries, and a specialized collection of lace and fans.
The museum was founded in 1986 when Professor Hilda Sandtner donated her extensive private collection of textiles and art objects to the city of Mindelheim. This generous gift brought together decades of collecting work into a single public institution.
The collection displays garments from different periods and cultures that visitors can see and explore throughout the exhibition spaces. The displays show how different fabrics, stitching techniques, and decorative methods were used for both everyday wear and special occasions.
The second floor of the museum features interactive stations where visitors can test handicraft techniques and take part in educational activities. These hands-on areas allow both children and adults to gain practical experience working with textiles.
The museum displays sophisticated dresses by Charles Frederick Worth, who founded modern haute couture and transformed women's fashion after 1850. His creations show how a single designer reshaped the way people dressed.
