Französische Kapelle, Military chapel in Soest, Germany.

The French Chapel stands within the former Colonel BEM Adam barracks, featuring a compact worship space measuring 7.5 meters long and 6 meters wide.

French military officers, captured in Lorraine in 1940, transformed a room in the first barracks block into this religious space during their internment.

The chapel exhibits murals created by imprisoned French artists René Coulon and Guillaume Gillet between July and December 1940.

The chapel functions as a contemporary history museum, presenting exhibitions about the experiences of French and Soviet officers in Oflag VIA prison camp.

Adjacent to the chapel, captured professors established a makeshift university where they conducted lectures during their confinement in the prison camp.
