Seilbahnberg, Mountain summit at eastern edge of Lengede, Germany

Seilbahnberg is an artificial mound near Lengede in the Peine district, rising to 157 meters and formed from mining excavations. Multiple hiking trails cross its slopes and lead to viewpoints overlooking the surrounding landscape.

The mountain was created in 1917 when approximately 450,000 cubic meters of excavated soil from the Mathilde open-pit mine were deposited using an innovative cable car system. This system automatically emptied mining carts at the summit before they returned empty to the mine below.

The mountain takes its name from a cable car system that operated until 1927 to move mining materials. Walking here, visitors can sense this overlooked chapter of local industrial life.

Access the mountain via Vallstedter Weg in Lengede where parking is readily available nearby. The trails are clearly marked and manageable on foot, especially if you allow time to explore at a leisurely pace.

The cable car system was fully automated and could process vast amounts of excavated material daily, which was technically impressive for its time. This engineering achievement shows how creatively people solved mining challenges during the early industrial period.
