Gebrannte Brücke, Border crossing point between Bavaria and Thuringia, Germany.

The Gebrannte Brücke spans across marshland, connecting the Sonneberg district of Hönbach with the Neustadt district of Ebersdorf at the state border.

In 1162, a wooden causeway existed at this location, with its timbers deliberately charred to increase durability, giving the bridge its name.

Until the 14th century, the bridge served as a location for a bridge court, where legal proceedings and disputes were settled between regions.

Between 1945 and 1949, the bridge functioned as a crossing point between the American occupation zone in Bavaria and the Soviet zone in Thuringia.

On July 1, 1990, Peter-Michael Diestel and Wolfgang Schäuble signed the treaty abolishing internal German border controls at this location.
