Kameha Grand Bonn, hotel
Kameha Grand Bonn is a hotel on the bank of the Rhine river in Bonn, Germany, recognized by its wing-shaped architectural form. The building holds 254 rooms and suites, each with large windows and contemporary furnishings.
The hotel opened in 2009 as part of a broader development of Bonn's Rhine riverfront, which gained new momentum after the German government moved to Berlin. The area, once home to federal ministries, gradually transformed into a mix of offices, residences and hotels.
The name "Kameha" comes from the Hawaiian king Kamehameha, giving the building an unexpected connection to Pacific culture. Inside, the rooms and common areas are filled with large-scale artworks and bold color choices, all designed by Dutch designer Marcel Wanders.
The hotel sits in Bonn's former government district, a short distance from the city center, and is reachable by public transport. A car is helpful for exploring the wider region, but the Rhine riverfront path is easy to reach on foot from the entrance.
One of the suites in the hotel was designed to evoke the interior of a private jet, with a layout and materials meant to recall air travel. This room draws visitors who are curious about the design concept even if they are not staying overnight.
