Ruine Maisenburg, Medieval castle ruin in Hayingen, Germany.

Ruine Maisenburg is a castle site on a high plateau south of Indelhausen, located at about 620 meters elevation and overlooking the Lauter Valley. Fragments of stone walls and defensive structures remain visible at the site and give a sense of the original layout.

The castle was founded in the 12th century by the Knights of Maisenburg and first appears in written records in 1268 as Castrum Maisenburg. This early mention shows it was already an established site of importance in the region at that time.

The castle grounds function as a place where visitors can observe medieval defensive design through standing walls and information boards. People come here to understand how such fortifications were built and used in earlier times.

The site is reached by a footpath from the hiking parking area south of Indelhausen and can be explored freely throughout the year. Sturdy footwear is a good idea, especially after rain or when the ground is damp.

One of the most remarkable features is the well-preserved shield wall built from cut stones that retains its original proportions. This structure shows how masonry techniques were used in medieval defensive construction.
