Burg Derneck

Burg Derneck is a medieval castle located on elevated terrain near Hayingen. The structure features a defensive wall with an integrated round tower positioned at approximately 655 meters above sea level.

Degenhard von Gundelfingen initiated construction around 1350 as a strategic stronghold in the Swabian region. The fortification was built in an elevated position to control and defend the surrounding area.

The castle functions as a hiking lodge maintained by the Swabian Alb Association. Visitors can experience how a medieval fortification has been adapted to serve modern travelers on the hiking trails of the region.

The site is accessible by foot along a walking path of about 500 meters from the parking area in Münzdorf. The trail leads uphill through the landscape to reach the castle where visitors can explore the grounds.

The interior houses a dining establishment called Burgschänke and provides approximately 41 overnight beds within the walls. This blend of historical setting and working facilities creates an unusual way to experience medieval architecture.
