Schloss Granheim, Manor house in Ehingen, Germany

Schloss Granheim stands at the northern end of Granheim, in the direction of Frankenhofen, in the Alb-Donau district. It is a three-story building with a mansard roof, erected in the 15th century on the site of an older village castle and renewed in 1776.

The castle was built in the 15th century and served as a family seat for generations before substantial renovations transformed its appearance between 1770 and 1776. This 18th-century remodeling gave the building its current appearance and shaped its architectural character.

Schloss Granheim was the seat of the Freiherren von Speth zu Schülzburg, who held it from its 15th-century construction until August 2004. The name Granheim belongs to the village at whose northern end the castle stands, in the direction of Frankenhofen. Since 2004 the castle and its grounds have been owned by Marietta Freifrau von und zu Massenbach.

The castle sits at the northern edge of Granheim village and is accessible via local country roads that pass through the settlement. Since this is a private property, visitors should arrange any tours or access in advance before planning a visit.

The castle stayed in the hands of the Freiherren von Speth zu Schülzburg for more than five centuries, from its construction until August 2004. Only then did ownership pass to Marietta Freifrau von und zu Massenbach, who has held the castle and its grounds alone since.
