Burg Bichishausen

Burg Bichishausen is a castle ruin located on a hilltop in the Große Lautertal valley in Württemberg. The remains include sections of the outer fortification wall, foundations of the central keep and residential structures, along with the courtyard layout that reveals where the original tower once stood.

Construction of the castle began in the early 13th century as a strategic fortification for the region. From the 16th century onward, the Treisch von Buttlar family used it as their residence before abandoning the site around the middle of that century.

The castle served as a residence for the noble Treisch von Buttlar family, who shaped the area for generations. Its elevated position made it a visible symbol of power and control for people living in the valley below.

The castle ruins are open to the public at no cost, allowing visitors to explore freely at their own pace. The steel stairs and uneven ground surfaces require care, especially when wet, so sturdy footwear and caution are recommended when moving through the site.

The original keep tower was never completely destroyed, and visitors can still trace its foundation outline in the current ground layout. This hidden detail allows walkers to mentally reconstruct the medieval fortress as it once stood.
