Jesuitenhof, Heritage building in Düren, Germany
The Jesuitenhof is a three-story brick building with sandstone framing located on Nideggener Street in Düren. It preserves an original gateway structure from its former courtyard complex and displays characteristic features of refined residential architecture from the 18th century.
The building was completed in 1719 following major destruction from warfare and fires that affected the city in the 1600s. It replaced an earlier structure on the same site and became part of urban reconstruction efforts.
Named as Jesuitenhof in 1634, the building served the community as a place of learning and faith rooted in local spiritual life. The brick and sandstone facade still carries the marks of an institution that once held prominence in the city.
The building stands where the current public swimming pool is located, so direct access inside is not possible, though the facade remains visible from the street. The site is near the city center and easily reached by public transit.
The building changed names multiple times, from Courtenbachshof through Meyradtshof and St. Annahof before becoming Jesuitenhof, reflecting the varied history of the site. Each name was tied to different owners and uses that shaped Düren's development.
