Riemann-Kaserne, Military barracks in Düren, Germany
Riemann-Kaserne was a military installation in Düren with multiple buildings housing infantry, artillery units, administrative offices, and residential quarters for personnel and their families. The complex spread across a substantial area with distinct sections for different operational needs.
Built in 1913 on Königgrätzer Street, the barracks complex was inaugurated in July 1914. It was renamed after Julius Riemann in 1938.
The site has shaped the neighborhood as a place for civilian purposes over many decades. Schools and kindergartens welcomed families here after the war, turning the former barracks into a community space for learning.
The location benefits from good road connections and is easy to reach from other parts of the city. Access to certain areas may be restricted, so check before visiting.
During a major bombing raid on Düren in 1944, one block of the barracks survived with minimal damage while surrounding buildings were devastated. This made the complex a striking reminder of destruction and survival in the city.
