Godesberger Hof, hotel building in Bonn, Germany
Godesberger Hof is a building in Rungsdorf, a district of Bonn, located directly on the Rhine riverbank near Panoramapark. The structure dates from 1895 and was originally designed as a hotel, featuring architectural elements characteristic of the Gründerzeit period.
The hotel was built in 1895 under the name Kaiserkrone and was considered one of the finest establishments on this section of the Rhine. After World War Two, the Allies took over the building in 1949, converting it into a guesthouse with a cinema for American officials.
The building takes its name from a nearby location and once served as a gathering place for travelers and local residents. Today, a street bearing this name preserves the memory of this establishment in the city's everyday life.
The site was redeveloped between 2008 and 2010 into a residential neighborhood with single-family homes and apartment buildings, with the original structure now incorporated into a multi-unit building with eight apartments. Access is available via Godesberger Hof street, which branches off from Basteistraße and provides good orientation for visitors.
In September 1938, the hotel became a focal point of international attention when journalists from around the world stayed here to cover the Sudeten crisis. This unexpected connection to a pivotal moment in 1930s European history remains a surprising element of its significance.
