Schloss Bürg, Cultural heritage château in Neuenstadt am Kocher, Germany

Schloss Bürg is a castle in Neuenstadt am Kocher with late Gothic features, including stepped gables and a southern terrace overlooking the Kocher Valley. The building contains vaulted rooms and was constructed on top of older cellars that form the foundation of what we see today.

The castle was fundamentally reshaped between 1559 and 1565 and then served as a residence for the Württemberg line of Neuenstadt from 1617 to 1781. After heavy artillery damage during World War II, it underwent major reconstruction from 1947 to 1949.

The castle displays typical German late Gothic features, especially in its stepped gables and vaulted interior rooms. The chapel inside was an important space for those who lived here and continues to shape how the building looks today.

Access to the castle was historically provided by two bridges crossing the surrounding moat, which led to garden areas and woodland grounds. Visitors should note that the site may have limited opening hours and visits are best planned in advance.

The castle provided shelter for refugees and soldiers during World War II, showing how it served a protective role beyond its original function. This chapter of the past continues to shape the building's restoration story.
