The mountain was first recorded in 1317 under the name Kurnberg. Its name comes from Middle High German and refers to a mill that once operated on its slopes.
The mountain forms part of a major hiking trail system that connects walkers through the Fichtel Mountains region. Many visitors come to experience nature and enjoy views across the landscape.
Several hiking trails lead to the summit where visitors can climb the Schönburg Watchtower. From there you get good views across the surrounding mountain landscape.
The mountain contains old granite quarries that reveal different geological layers. The stone at the base appears coarse-grained, while higher areas show finer structures.
