Graevenitz-Museum, museum
The Graevenitz-Museum (also called Museum Fritz von Graevenitz) is an art museum in Stuttgart-West dedicated to the work of sculptor Fritz von Graevenitz. The collection is housed in the Kavaliershaus, a small building within the Schloss Solitude complex, and displays a selection of his sculptures and paintings.
Fritz von Graevenitz was a sculptor who worked from 1921 until 1959, creating sculptures and paintings in his studio at Solitude. After his death, his wife Jutta opened the museum in 1971 to preserve his artistic legacy and working environment.
The museum honors Fritz von Graevenitz and represents a strand of German modern art that values simplicity and everyday materials. Visitors discover how ordinary objects can be transformed through artistic vision into meaningful forms.
The museum is located in a quiet, green area and is accessible by public transport or car, with parking available nearby. The rooms are bright and simply designed, making it easy to walk through and view the artworks.
The artist's studio was originally set on the garden side of house 24 at Solitude, featuring workshops and a barn that were later demolished. This working environment continues to shape how the artist and his creations are understood today.
