Trumpf-Steg, Pedestrian bridge in Ditzingen, Germany
The Trumpf-Steg is a pedestrian bridge crossing Gerlinger Straße in Ditzingen, made from double-curved welded stainless steel plates that serve as both the support structure and walking surface. The span extends about 28 meters and features a width of 2.2 meters with full glass guardrails on both sides.
Construction began in August 2017 and was completed in June 2018, with a 700-ton crane lifting the prefabricated sections into place. The innovative design earned the German Bridge Construction Award 2020 in the Pedestrian and Bicycle Bridges category.
The bridge earned recognition through the German Bridge Construction Award 2020 in the Pedestrian and Bicycle Bridges category for its engineering and design excellence.
The surface features a non-slip coating and glass-filled perforations that provide stability in varying weather conditions. The full glass guardrails offer safety while maintaining clear sightlines across the surrounding area.
The walking surface contains approximately 14.300 precisely engineered holes filled with glass that create an interplay of light and shadow when the sun hits the structure. This feature is not immediately obvious from a distance but becomes notably visible when you step onto the bridge.
