Haus Nehlen, Medieval moated château in Welver, Germany
The two-story château features a rectangular design with a steep gabled roof and stands on an island surrounded by water channels.
First documented in 1268, Haus Nehlen protected the northern border of Rüdenberg County and the Archdiocese of Cologne through medieval times.
The Renaissance entrance tower displays ornate architectural elements and family coats of arms, reflecting the noble heritage of its former residents.
The château underwent extensive renovations from 2011 to 2013, including roof repairs, stone replacement, and window sill restoration work.
A sculptor now lives and works in one section of the château while a farming family occupies the other half of this historical structure.
